Various web/social media graphics I composed using provided design assets during my internship this past semester at Alchemy & Science, a Vermont-based brewing collaborative. If you’re a fan of craft beers, check out the Traveler Beer Company and Angel City Brewing Company!

Final project for Typography II—creating a book that explores two different voices or texts. As the reader progresses through this typographic journey, a third voice is then found to emerge. I chose to contrast rules from my middle school’s student handbook with quotes from the scandalous British television show, Skins. The chosen texts provide the reader with a glimpse of a delusional, chaotic lifestyle, juxtaposed with basic, elementary-style rules. The connections between these assets make it apparent that many childhood rules are irrelevant and obsolete, having little to no impact on individuals as they grow up, as seen in this TV series especially.

Concept to completion.

Four-part series using the elements of typography (paragraphs, phrases, words, syllables, letters, etc.) in ways that transcend the utilitarian in order to develop typographic settings for a text that give form to metaphoric implications or connotations through compositional arrangement, juxtaposition, and typographic manipulation. The idea these compositions evoke is a person who has come to America attempting to hold on to their own culture, embrace the many aspects it consists of, and perhaps after some uncertainty, find unity and balance between these cultures.

Composition for Typography II exploring the potential of typographic variables and the placement of letterforms to effectively communicate the meaning and essence of a text (in this case, the 270 page transcript of the 1925 Scopes “Monkey” Trial). The goal of this piece is to exhibit the main voices that were projected from this trial (William Jennings Bryan, Clarence Darrow, H.L. Mencken, various lawyers, reverends, etc.) as opposed to the citizens of Tennessee themselves.

For my final project in Culture & Design, I recreated Champlain College’s logo with a little Irish flavor. It features a few Dublin landmarks (the Samuel Beckett bridge, the Ha’Penny Bridge, and Four Courts). I thought it’d be nifty to paint it on the Irish bodhrán (drum) that I built in my Music Immersion class (also seen above). Champlain then decided to print my design on tee shirts for our class and professors! Sike!
